CLARK, NJ - Clark Police Chief Pedro Matos has confirmed there was a carjacking in the early hours before dawn on Wednesday on the 900 block of Lake Avenue.
According to Matos a male resident arrived home at approximately 4:30 a.m. As he sat in his car two males, each with handguns, approached the sides of the vehicle and ordered the victim out. The suspects took some of the victim’s personal belongings and the key to his 2012 BMW and fled on Lake Avenue.
The victim was unharmed during the incident. Matos confirmed that the car was recovered in Newark later in the day.
“We believe the victim was followed home,” said Matos. “This could have happened anywhere.”
Matos advises drivers to be aware of their environment. “Situational awareness is a good practice especially for anyone who is driving a higher-end vehicle. Being aware of your surroundings as you are getting in and out of your car is something that you should practice,” urged Matos.
The suspects in this incident are described as two black males approximately 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches in height. Both are said to have skinny builds. One male wore a red baseball cap and the other had dreadlocks in his hair. Both suspects had bandanas covering their faces during the incident.
