CLARK, NJ - Arthur L. Johnson High School welcomed Robert Perez as a new Business and Special Education teacher this school year. Perez was born and raised in Clark and graduated from ALJ in 2009.
Perez attended Rowan University for his undergraduate studies in history and subject matter teaching. He later attended Kean University for his Master’s in Special Education.
Perez decided to become a teacher when he was a senior in high school. He said, many teachers at ALJ inspired him to become a teacher, especially his favorite ones.
This is his second year in the district, He worked last year as a long term sub/leave replacement teacher in multiple positions.
His typical day consists of getting in a few minutes early to check emails, plan upcoming lessons, make copies, and then grading after school.
“My favorite part of teaching is to create lessons where the students are provided with tools that are needed to be successful outside of school,” said Perez. He also enjoys being able to help students overcome the challenges of high school.
Some of Perez’s favorite things to do outside of school are reading, traveling, playing the guitar, piano, and trumpet. One interesting fact about him is that he is a die-hard Yankees fan and loves to go see them play.
Perez said he is excited to be teaching in the same school that he graduated from, alongside teachers that he had in high school.
