SCOTCH PLAINS, N.J. -- The Union Catholic baseball team, behind strong pitching and a two-run homer by Alex Gorodensky, defeated Rutgers Prep, 3-2, on Saturday. It's the third straight victory for the Vikings, who improved their record to 6-2.

Senior Robert McGuinness got his first win on the mound for UC this season, pitching four innings and only allowing one run on three hits. Senior Dylan Donohue secured the victory by allowing just one run over the final three innings.

The biggest hit in the game came with scored tied at 1-1 on the bottom of the fourth inning when Gorodensky slugged a two-run homer to give the Vikings a 3-2 lead. Union Catholic had scored its first run of the game on passed ball in the second inning that tied the game at 1-1.

Rutgers Prep (6-2 on the season) scored a run in the top of the sixth, but Donohue closed the door to secure the victory.

Union Catholic had eight hits in the game, two each by CJ Tomalavage, Richie Gonzales, and Elijah Walker.

Union Catholic goes on the road to take on Woodbridge on Monday at 4 p.m. .
