CLARK, NJ – The deadline for filing for board of education candidacy in the November General Election is 4 p.m. on Monday, July 28.  Candidate nominating petitions must be filed with the Union County Clerk at 2 Broad Street, Room 113, Elizabeth.

There are three seats open in Clark.  They are currently held by Michael Bonaccorso, Carmen Brocato and Laura Caliguire.   The Garwood seat on the Clark board, currently held by Christine Guerriero, is also open in the November election.

School board membership is non-partisan.  While elections were previously held in separate April elections, most New Jersey school boards now hold their elections on the November general election date.

“Education is vital to the quality of life in New Jersey; and local school boards have a direct impact on educational quality,” explained New Jersey School Boards Association President John Bulina. “However, school board membership is not easy, and the job is not for everyone. The issues facing our public schools require a strong commitment of time and energy by all who are elected to their local school boards.

“If you find satisfaction in serving your community, and have a sincere interest in education and the well-being of your community’s children, I urge you to consider running for school board office,” he said.

Information about school board candidacy can be obtained at the NJSBA website: www.njsba.org/candidacy, or at the Union County Clerk’s website:  School Board Election Information
