SPRINGFIELD, NJ – As a new month begins today, the Dayton boys basketball team is looking to regain its footing.

Johnson has won three straight and four of its last six games.

Sophomore guard DJ Alicea scored 16 points, hitting 10 free throws, and junior forward Eugene Atkinson and junior guard Vinny Pulice each added five points apiece for Dayton (5-8), which has lost two straight, three of its last four, and four of its last six games.

Alicea has scored in double figures in 12 games played this season, but saw his seven-game streak of scoring 20 or more points snapped.

“Tuesday night was a tough night. We all were not knocking shots down or playing good defense and it hurt us in the long run. As a team we need to share the ball more and convert on good open looks,” said Alicea, who is averaging 21.7 points per game. “Personally, I have to get my teammates going so that all of the scoring burden doesn’t always fall back on me.”
