UPDATE: 12:52 p.m. - Clark Police Chief Pedro Matos confirmed that both occupants in this morning's accident have died.
UPDATE: 12:35 p.m. - Clark Fire Chief Frank Ceresa confirmed one of the vehicle's occupants was pronounced dead on the scene. Lieutenant Schafer of the NJ State Police confirmed this was a single vehicle accident. "The vehicle went off the road on the right-hand side and was submerged in water. The right two lanes of the parkway are closed for investigation and will be for some time."
CLARK, NJ –The northbound Garden State Parkway is experiencing extensive delays due to emergency crews occupying several lanes of the roadway. Clark’s Chief of Police, Pedro Matos confirmed that personnel are on the scene of an accident involving a car that went off the road and into the river upside down.
“Several Clark officers and Troopers went into the water to get the occupants out. At this time we know of at least two occupants,” said Matos. He was also able to confirm that CPR was started and transportation to the hospital was underway.
Emergency personnel from Clark, Cranford, Union County and the NJ State Police were all on the scene.
The NJ State Police has not yet issued a statement. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
