Christine Cwieka Romeo of New Providence, ALJ Graduate, Passes Away at 50


Christine Cwieka Romeo was born on January 5, 1965 in Rahway, NJ, the third child of Henry Casmir Cwieka and Eleanor Ksiazek Cwieka.  

After graduating with academic and athletic honors from Arthur L. Johnson Regional High School she was recruited to play basketball for Georgetown University, where she studied finance.  She also studied at Oxford and graduated from Georgetown with a bachelor’s degree. She continued her studies graduating with her law degree from Emory University.  Most recently, Christine worked as a corporate attorney in the Surety Department at Chubb Insurance Company, in Warren.

Married to Michael Romeo of New Providence for the past 21 years, Christine also leaves behind two sons, Matthew, 18 and Jonathan, 16.  She is also survived by her brothers Glenn Cwieka and his wife Annie and Ken Cwieka and his wife Anne. Her family was the center of her life.  She was active in her community supporting her sons athletic, religious and scouting endeavors.  Christine was a coach of both CYO and PAL basketball, she volunteered time each year spearheading the annual food drive at Thanksgiving time for the Scouts. She also spent countless hours volunteering for various sporting events, different ministries for Our Lady of Peace and anywhere else she was needed.

Christine passed away in her home on Christmas Day. We will celebrate her passion for life, uplifting spirit, and unending courage.  Her love for family, friends and others will be forever cherished by all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.  

The viewing for Mrs. Romeo will be from 4 – 8 p.m., Tuesday, December 29 at Paul Ippolito Summit Memorial, 7 Summit Avenue, Summit, NJ.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 30 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 111 South Street, New Providence. NJ American Water Working to Replace Water Mains in Clark
