CLARK, NJ - September is National Hunger Awareness Month and local officials came together at Shoprite in Clark to “Help Bag Hunger” on Wednesday morning. Working side-by-side with store management and employees, Clark Police Chief Pedro Matos and Councilman Al Barr bagged groceries collected through the Shoprite Partners in Caring Fund.
“I am just glad I could help a cause like this,” Matos said, as he bagged a gallon of milk for a morning shopper.
The goal is to collect $11,000 in groceries that will be distributed to local community food banks.
"I have been doing this every year I've been on council, since 2000," Barr said. "It is a great cause."
Union Country Freeholder Vice Chairman Bruce H. Bergen and Freeholders Vernell Wright and Christopher Hudak joined in to lend a hand.
