CLARK, NJ – A routine motor vehicle stop resulted in a police chase down Lake Avenue and an arrest in Rahway Tuesday morning, Clark Police confirmed.

Clark police pulled over a 2010 Infiniti G37 at around 11 a.m., Captain Vincent Concina of the Clark Police Department said.

“When the officer spoke to the driver he had a suspicion the driver was under the influence,” Concina said. While the officer was checking the driver’s credentials, the suspect drove off down Lake Avenue toward Rahway.

Clark police followed the suspect into Rahway, where he was apprehended near the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and West Meadow Avenue.

The suspect was placed under arrest and transported to an area hospital, Concina said.  He declined to give the suspect’s name citing an active investigation.

“It was a successful stop without any accidents or anyone else being harmed,” he said. Speed was not a factor in the chase, he said.

The event was unrelated to a three-car accident that happened on Broadway at approximately the same time, Concina said.

Also unrelated, Clark Police took a report of a stolen Honda Ridgeline from Sheffield Way earlier in the day.  That vehicle has been entered into the stolen car tracking system and police are attempting to locate it, Concina said.  That event may be related to a report of burglary of a motor vehicle on Dawn Drive at about 9:45 a.m, he said.

“We’re having a busy day,” Concina said.
