KENILWORTH, NJ - A small ceremony was held at the Clark American Legion Pavilion on August 29, 2020, to award Aedan Louis Kelly the rank of Eagle Scout which is the Boy Scouts of America’s highest honor.
Kelly, a Clark resident and member of BSA Troop 145, graduated Arthur L. Johnson High School in June. His plans include obtaining a college degree in business, and then becoming a Firefighter. He is the son of Kenilworth Firefighter Shawn Kelly and the grandson of Fallen Firefighter Chief Louis Kelly.
For his Eagle Service Project, Kelly solicited donations and installed a granite memorial honoring all fallen Union County Firefighters. The project took place at the Kenilworth Fire Department and the monument was placed in front of it.
Kelly received letters of recognition commemorating his achievement from Pope Francis, President of the United States Donald Trump, President George W. Bush, Senator Robert Menendez, NASA Astronaut Commander Scott Kelly, The New Jersey State FMBA, The US Marine Corps, The US Air Force Blue Angels, The US Navy SEALs, and The American Legion.
“I am beaming with pride that my son was able to reach his goal within such an incredible organization" his father firefighter Shawn Kelly said. “Becoming an Eagle is no small task. It took years and years of hard work on his part. Scouting has shaped his character far beyond what any parent can accomplish alone. He wouldn’t be the type of person he is today without the help of the incredible young men and steadfast guidance of the adult leadership of Clark Troop 145.”
Kelly would like to thank the following for their support and generous donations:
