MONTCLAIR, NJ – Clark native and 1993 Arthur L. Johnson High School graduate, J.R. Sangiuliano, affectionately known as “Coach J.R.” to his Montclair High School football players, died unexpectedly on Monday, TAP into Montclair first reported. Although cause of death has been determined, this information will not be disclosed at this time.

Sangiuliano played defensive end for the ALJ Crusaders and had experience coaching both the offensive and defensive lines in Montclair. Montclair football coaches gathered yesterday with their students to inform them of the coach’s loss.

According to Sangiuliano’s bio, he attended Rider University after high school and earned a B.S. degree in Business Management in 1997.  He began his football coaching career in 1999 as a coach for the Pop Warner Football Program.  He joined the coaching staff at his high school alma mater in 2003 as a volunteer coach before joining the Montclair Mountie staff in 2004.

In addition to being an assistant football coach in Montclair, Sangiuliano was a real estate broker in Clark with Century 21 JRS Realty, a company his parents had owned. He was well-known and loved by many and was once known as a rising star in the real estate profession.

“Realtor Mag” reported that in 1999, JR closed more than $9 million worth of sales and was among the youngest sales associates to ever receive Century 21’s Centurion Award for sales production.

Montclair students, parents and coaching colleagues have taken to social media to mourn his loss. Students also express that they will strive for another football championship in their beloved Coach JR's honor.

Sangiuliano’s personal Facebook page has also begun to fill with condolences and shocked reactions at the news of his passing.

He leaves to mourn a wife, Stella, and two young children.
