PALM DESERT, CALIFORNIA – The Mylan World Tennis Team (WTT) Rec League recently held their national championship competition at Palm Valley Country Club in Palm Desert, CA. The New Jersey “Kick Aces,” captained by Clark-resident Adel Elsekhily, took home the championship title for their division.
A total of 69 teams and 500 players competed in 10 divisions, with players making the trip from 18 states. Kick Aces finished up the weekend 4-1. They went on to beat Team Pachauri (also with a 4-1 record) winning the championship title for their division.
Led by Elsekhily, other first-time champions included Karen Ellis, Manalapan, N.J.; Nancy Jurczak-Benson, Brick, N.J.; Mostafa Moamen and Safieeldin Moamen, both of Morganville, N.J.; Julie Monahan, Avon, N.J.; Karen Potaski, Toms River, N.J.; Andrew Rosenbloom, Lincroft, N.J.; and Nany Selph, Bound Brook, N.J.
Billie Jean King, the founder of the Billie Jean King Leadership Initiative and the co-founder of WTT, was on hand to congratulate the championship teams. According to the Mylan WTT website, King is “one of the 20th century's most respected and influential people and has long been a champion for social justice and equality. She created new inroads for both genders in and out of sports during her legendary career and she continues to make her mark today.”
