CLARK, NJ – The Township of Clark will conduct a “mobile memorial” to pay tribute to the heroes and survivors of September 11 throughout the day on Friday, Sept. 11. Nine sites have been selected throughout the township and individual remembrance ceremonies will take place at each. Each ceremony will last 11 minutes.
The schedule of events is:
9 a.m. – Memorial Service at Nelson Memorial Park, located at the corner of Broadway and Grand Street. The park is named in memory of James A. Nelson, a Clark resident and Port Authority police officer who died in the World Trade Center on 9/11. (See Voices of September 11th, James A. “Jimmy” Nelson”)
11:15 a.m. – Clark Public Library and Clark Police Department parking lot located at 303 Westfield Avenue
11:45 a.m. – Clark Commons, located at 1255 Raritan Road between Central Avenue and Walnut Avenue. Ceremony to be conducted in front of Whole Foods.
12:15 p.m. – Esposito Park located at 659 Madison Hill Road
12:45 p.m. – Clark Municipal Building located at 430 Westfield Avenue
6:30 p.m. – Arthur L. Johnson High School football field. The ceremony will take place before the school’s home opener football game.
Each school in the district will hold a private ceremony on school grounds during school hours. The school ceremonies are not open to the public.
Steel from the World Trade Center site will be on display at the ceremonies.
