CLARK, NJ - The Clark Chapter of UNICO held a Bocce Night on Friday in celebration of the end of another season of community involvement and service.
Chapter President Ralph Bernardo greeted members with the familiarity of family as they gathered around the bocce court at the Brewer Recreation Center.
Bernardo gave full credit to UNICO members Anna Pace and Fran Parisi for making the evening possible. Fran Parisi, a member for the last eight years, said she enjoys being part of the group because of the service work they do as well as the monthly social activities.
UNICO members enjoyed each others’ company, casual games of bocce and cuisine from a courtside food truck reminiscent of those seen at Italian street festivals. The evening concluded with dessert and sentiments from several members of the organization.
When asked why he got involved with UNICO, Vice President of the Clark Chapter, Joe Arancio said, “I am proud of my Italian culture and the service work we do and there are lots of social events too.”
Overhearing Arancio’s statement, Sharon Pane added UNICO’s guiding principle to the conversation when she said, “service above self.” Pane continued on by saying, “We do a lot to help the town, it is a nice organization.”
The Clark Chapter of UNICO started in 1978 and has approximately 150 members. They remain dedicated to serving the guiding principle Pane referred to in the years to come.
UNICO is the largest Italian American service organization in the United States and one of the few active organizations still operating in the area. For more information about the Clark Chapter of UNICO click here.
