ELIZABETH, NJ -- Myles Plummer finished first and the Union Catholic boys and girls varsity cross-country teams placed second at Thursday's Union County Conference Championships at Warinanco Park.

Plummer, a junior, won the boys Watchung Division race over the 3.19-mile course in 16:24, and junior Shane Brosnan placed second in 16:26 to spark the Vikings, ranked No. 11 in the state, to a runner-up finish behind No. 9 ranked Summit, 25-34. 

UC also received a ninth-place finish from Caudell Cajuste (17:39), a 10th from Matt Granizo (17:41), and 12th place from Ryan Cichocki (17:56).

In the girls Watchung Division race, UC, ranked No. 18 in the state, edged No. 17 Summit on a sixth-runner tiebreaker to finish second to No. 7 ranked Westfield. The Vikings and Summit each finished with 63 points. Westfield finished first with 26.

UC's sixth runner, junior Jenna Keith, gave UC tiebreaker over Summit by placing 25th in 22:10, three places ahead of Summit's No. 6 runner.      

The top five for the Vikings were Abby Granrath, ninth in 20:31, Leilani Gibson, 10th in 20:42, Morgan Williams,12th in 20:59, Danielle Coyne, 13th in 21:16, and Asydiah Pray-Brown, 19th in 21:52.

In the freshman boys race, UC came up with an impressive 34-44 victory over runner-up Summit. The Vikings were led by Jimmy Wischusen (12:44), Josh Hunsinger (12:55), and Marcus McCoy (12:55), who went 2-3-4 over the two-mile layout. Rounding out the scoring for UC were Riley Ramirez, 13th in 14:15, and Dylan Williams, 14th in 14:21.
