CLARK, NJ – The Arthur L. Johnson High School Athletic Department honored the student athletes who participated in fall sports at the 2014 Fall Athletic Awards ceremony held on Monday evening in the school’s auditorium.  The event was sponsored by the Crusader Athletic Booster Club.

More than 188 varsity athletic letters were presented during the ceremony, indicating a steady growth in sports participation at the school. Coaches introduced the members of their teams and presented season highlights.

The Fall Student Athlete Award was presented to Lucas Gallo by Principal Richard Delmonaco.  The award is given each season to one student who has excelled on the field and in the classroom.

The Crusader G.P.A. Challenge, awarded to the team with the highest overall G.P.A. during the season,  was awarded to the Crusaders Gymnastics Team with a 4.02.  Team members Marissa Hampp, Kelsey Briscese, Gabriella Zatko, Lauren DeMille, Gina Ferdinandi, Payton Wiese, and Angela Pieros received certificates and will enjoy “Breakfast with the A.D” in recognition of their achievement.  The team will also be memorialized on the Challenge plaque.

New this year was the Best Teammate Award.  The award will be presented each season to one member of each athletic team that best exemplifies the characteristics of a good teammate.  Individuals receiving the award exhibit upbeat attitudes and outstanding character.  They are a positive influence on the team culture, are supportive of their teammates and promote team unity.  Inaugural winners of the award were:

Cross Country– Louis Cacchione, Field Hockey – Sara Diwane, Football – Jason Brougham, Gymnastics – Lauren DeMille, Boys’ Soccer – Adam Kedra, Girls’ Soccer – Anabela Casimiro, Girls’ Tennis – Natalie Perla, Volleyball – Nicole Nugent, and Cheerleading – Gianna Grady

The Team Most Valuable Player awards were presented as a finale to the evening.  The fall sports MVP’s were:

Cross Country – Zachary Hofschneider, Field Hockey – Janet Vill, Football – Matthew Pedicine, Gymnastics – Gina Ferdinandi, Boys’ Soccer – Liam Deacy, Girls’ Soccer – Lauren Beck, Girls’ Tennis – Kelly Vena, Volleyball – Natalie Stazione, and Cheerleading – Jessie Riddlestorffer

“Once again, our Fall Athletic Awards Program was a successful evening,” said Athletic Director Gus Kalikas. “It allows the District, Administration, and Coaches the opportunity to acknowledge a wonderful Fall Sports Season as well as recognize both student athletes and their parents alike for all that they have accomplished this past fall athletic season.”
