PLAINFIELD, NJ – Joan O’Donnell, a fitness instructor at the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA and a volunteer at the Plainfield Country Club during the Barclays pro golf tournament this week, has been nominated for the Barclays’ PGA Tour Volunteer Challenge. The contest will award $5,000 to a charity of the winner’s choice. O’Donnell has declared FSPY as the recipient of the donation.
As of Wednesday, O’Donnell, a Scotch Plains resident, was only 25 votes behind the leader. Voting for the challenge ends on Saturday, August 29 at 1 p.m. To vote for O’Donnell, visit http://www.tourchallenge.com/TheBarclays/Vote?entry_id=68827.
“If we win, the money will go towards our Annual Support Campaign, a financial assistance program that enables children and their families to participate in YMCA memberships and other programs,” said Gina Heuck, Marketing Director of the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA. “Last year, FSPY offered over $150,000 in financial assistance.”
The PGA Tour Volunteer Program was created to recognize and show appreciation to the tens of thousands of tournament volunteers annually to help raise funds for local charities. Last year,The Barclays donated more than $1.4 million to a variety of organizations.
