FANWOOD, NJ -- In the wake of the mass shooting in San Bernardino, Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr and the New Jersey Chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America will host a "Wear Orange" event to commemorate the 3rd anniversary of the Sandy Hook massacre.

"We Can End Gun Violence: Hope and Change for 2016" will take place on Sunday, Dec.13 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Forest Road Park Building (160 Forest Road) in Fanwood. Attendees are encouraged to wear something orange, the color for gun violence awareness. (Orange has been adopted as a symbol of the gun violence prevention movement to honor all survivors and victims of gun violence.)

More than 100 "Wear Orange" events will take place this weekend in communities across the country, and Fanwood's is the largest in New Jersey. Expected attendees include U.S. Rep Bonnie Watson Coleman, NJ State Senator Nicholas Scutari, and Scotch Plains Mayor Kevin Glover. Additionally, there will be music performed by local high school students and poetry from Adele Kenny, Fanwood's Poet Laureate to honor victims of mass gun violence.

"We will come together as a community to honor those lives senselessly cut short by gun violence," said Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr. "It is an epidemic that we see and hear about every day. The anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School killings  motivates me to lend my support to this event."

Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America is a non-partisan grassroots movement of American mothers fighting for public safety measures that respect the Second Amendment and protect people from gun violence. Since its inception after the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School, the organization campaigns for new and stronger solutions to lax gun laws and loopholes that jeopardize the safety of children and families. Mothers Demand Action seeks common-sense solutions to address the country’s dangerous culture of gun violence. Follow on Facebook or on Twitter at @MomsDemand.

I read with interest in a local newspaper regarding the Union county democrat party political infighting for their “county chair” selection.  There were 2 letters juxtaposed, each one listing supporters of either Senator Scutari or Fanwood Mayor Mahr, who are the two main people vying for the “boss” position.

Although I am a democrat I am not a committee ...
