First Congregational Church Hosts Forum on Community Activism

First Congregational Church of Westfield will host a forum on community activism on Sunday, March 26, from 2-4:30 pm at 125 Elmer Street in Westfield.

First Congregational Church of Westfield will host a forum for community activists and advocates on Sunday, March 26, from 2 to 4:30 pm at 125 Elmer Street in Westfield. The event is free and open to the public but prior registration is required.

“Preserving Sanity, Safety and Soul in Turbulent Times: Psychological, Legal and Spiritual Considerations for Activists and Advocates” is an interactive seminar on coping during times of social anxiety and political unrest. 

Led by a prominent local attorney, therapist and clergy member, the program will explore the impact and implications of community activism in the post-election environment.  Specific presentations include:

“Right Intention, Right Speech, Right Action: Moral and Spiritual Considerations” by Rev. Dr. Mark Boyea, Senior Minister, First Congregational Church of Westfield;

“Managing Stress and Avoiding Burnout in an Era of Anxiety and Activism,” by Peggy A. Rothbaum, PhD, psychologist, writer and community activist; and

“Civil or Uncivil Disobedience: What’s the Difference and Does it Matter?” by Thomas C. Jardim, former Westfield mayor and attorney with Jardim, Meisner, Susser in Florham Park.
