First Congregational Church of Westfield to Hold Cabaret Fundraiser

Joe Regan and Elaine Brier once again share the stage for “October Surprise,” a lively fundraiser at the First Congregational Church of Westfield, on Saturday, October 22.

The popular cabaret fundraiser “October Surprise” returns to First Congregational Church (FCC) on Saturday, October 22nd at 7 pm in the church’s Patton Auditorium at 125 Elmer Street in Westfield.  The evening features a lively revue of show tunes and comedy under the direction of award-winning cabaret pianist Joe Regan. Desserts and coffee are served.  This event is free and open to the public.

Acclaimed actress, singer and songwriter Elaine Brier, known for her comedic songs, will once again share the stage with Mr. Regan. Joining them are a roster of cabaret and theatre performers from the metropolitan area.

Joe Regan, FCC assistant director of music, is a professional pianist/singer who performs at piano bars, and cabaret rooms in NYC.   He can currently be seen at “Don’t Tell Mama” every Tuesday from 9pm-3am in Manhattan and on Fridays and Sundays at "16 Prospect" here in Westfield.  

First hosted by the FCC in 2003, “October Surprise” has become an eagerly-awaited annual event.  Admission is free and raffle tickets will be sold for a chance to win several themed gift baskets.  All proceeds benefit the church’s various ministries.  Doors open at 6:30 pm; seating is limited and reservations are suggested.  Please contact the church office at 908-233-2494 or e-mail to reserve.  For additional information, visit their website

Cranford Man Dies after Wrong-Way Crash on Route 9

WOODBRIDGE, NJ – A Cranford man died after his car collided with another vehicle on Route 9 on Sunday.

Thomas McHugh, 88, was driving north in the southbound fast lane on Route 9, where he crashed head-on into another vehicle. On impact, one of the cars caught fire, according to Sgt. Jim Chessere of the Woodbridge Police Department.
