CLARK, NJ - The Frank K. Hehnly Elementary School celebrated the promotion of its 2014-2015 fifth grade class on Thursday, June 18. The milestone event was accompanied by a first in the school’s history.  The students honored their parents with an original song composed by two graduating students.

The song, appropriately entitled, “Movin’ On,” pays homage to the students’ elementary school memories and to future memories to be made. Ashley Rose Breien composed the music and worked in collaboration with friend Katrina Kowalenko on the lyrics.

The music program, directed by teacher Meghan Bowers, has proven to be a huge success among the students.

"I am incredibly proud of these two students for their musical accomplishments,” Bowers said. “The piece written was complex in both its music and lyrics, and was thoroughly enjoyed by the rest of the fifth grade at Hehnly."

Breien, the composer, intends to pursue a career in songwriting and singing.  At the age of 10, she has already written eight original pieces, all of which she hopes to publish one day.

“This is a great accomplishment. The students should be very proud,” school Principal Shirley Bergin said.
