CLARK, NJ - Oh’ Brian’s on the Green is a hidden gem tucked just inside the gates of the Hyatt Hills Golf complex. The atmosphere and the people are warm and welcoming in this spacious restaurant located on Raritan Road. “It is a gastropub with great food in a pub-like atmosphere. It is definitely not your father’s Irish pub,” said owner Brian Costello.
No stranger to the hospitality industry, Costello worked in restaurants throughout his life before he went into partnership on his first bar-restaurant. This first partnership exposed Costello to the fever of restaurant ownership and inspired him to open an even larger venue with a more expansive menu. He and business partner Jon Cohen own Oh’ Brian’s on the Green which opened in June 2013.
Chef Lawrence Talis has created the perfect culinary options to support Costello’s vision. Take a close look at the menu items and it becomes clear that this is more than standard pub fare. Talis works tirelessly in the kitchen to craft each dish with a unique twist.
The Pan Roasted Chicken, a seemingly traditional dish, transforms atop a puree of sweet potatoes with fried Brussel sprouts and crème fraiche maple butter. Fish Tacos are an elevated experience when paired with a pineapple relish and chipotle mayo. Braised Short Ribs, NY Strip Steak, Potato Gnocchi, and Seared Salmon are each served up with Talis’s distinctive flair.
Sunday brunch features Short Rib Benedict, an unexpected spin-off of the classic, served on corn cakes with poblano crema and cilantro.
The creativity extends to the many burgers and sandwiches found on the menu. The Oh’ Brian’s Burger, Blue and Brew Burger, Lamb Burger, Pretzel Club and Shrimp Po’ Boy are just a few of the unique offerings.
"It is one of the great parts of this place. The menu is accessible to all,” said Costello.
Nightly specials like Tuesday Kids Eat Free, Wednesday $5 Burger Night, and Thursday Fried Chicken Night make the restaurant even more approachable and affordable for family dining. Custom menus can also be created to mark a memorable special event or occasion.
The menu is complimented by Oh’ Brian’s great selection of craft beers on draught across 20 taps. Many more craft beer selections are available by the bottle. The beer selection changes regularly so patrons can experience new and seasonal selections. Oh’ Brian’s full bar also turns out a terrific assortment of cocktails and wines.
The final accompaniment to a night of great food and drinks is live entertainment. Oh’ Brian’s features a full assortment of live music and entertainment each month. Friday’s Acoustic Happy Hour is a popular after-work stop. Check the Events Calendar on the Oh’ Brian’s website for a schedule of upcoming performances. A popular feature on Saturday nights is “Dueling Pianos.” This regularly sold-out show is “part comedy, part rock and all party.”
Oh’ Brian’s is looking forward to summer when it will unveil the renovation of the current course-side grill into a deli and pizza bar. Golfers can enjoy a quick bite before or after a round of golf or a turn on the driving range.
