SPRINGFIELD, NJ -- The Union Catholic girls soccer team, behind two goals from Christina Layden and a strong defensive effort, defeated Dayton, 4-0, to earn its third straight victory on Thursday in Springfield.
The Vikings, now 4-1-2, on the season, took a 1-0 lead on an own goal at the 10-minute mark. Layden, a senior striker, made it 2-0 when she scored on a free kick at the 13-minute mark from 25 yards out.
Layden raised her season total to 10 goals when she scored off a pass from Caroline Morgan at the 42-minute mark.
Junior Anastasia Rengifo put the finishing touches on the victory late in the game with her first varsity goal, which came off an assist from sophomore Zoe Milne.
Junior Nadine Rouba made six saves to earn her second shutout of the season for the Vikings.
