Gun Buy Back Program to be Held in 3 NJ Cities July 28-29

CLARK, NJ - A two-day gun buy back event will take place in three New Jersey cities on July 28 and 29 from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm as a part of the New Jersey Statewide Gun Amnesty Program.

The three events will take place in:

  • Camden, at the Antioch Baptist Church at 700 Ferry Avenue
  • Newark, at the Greater Abyssinian Baptist Church, 88 Lyons Avenue
  • Trenton, at the Friendship Baptist Church, located at 111 Perry Street

“Gun buy backs provide a vital means for taking deadly firearms out of circulation before they can be used to take a life,” Attorney General Christopher Porrino said in a press conference.  “Some say that weapons turned in during these buy backs are just old ‘attic guns’ -- as if that somehow makes them less lethal. Whether we’re talking about a Tech-9 or an old hunting rifle, guns are dangerous. All anyone needs to do is read news stories from across the nation – including New Jersey – to know that guns left lying around the home are a common source of tragedy.”

Under standardized pricing set for the tri-county gun buyback, residents will be paid $100 for turning in a rifle or shotgun, $120 for a handgun or revolver, and $200 for an assault weapon. Law enforcement firearms experts will be on hand at each location to assist with the valuation and securing of turned-in weapons.

Q. Who can turn in guns at this event?

A. Only residents from New Jersey are eligible.

Q. How will I be paid for my gun(s)?

A. You will receive cash (no checks, gift cards or vouchers).

Q. How many weapons can I cash in?

A. There is a maximum of three weapons per resident.

Q. How do I transport my guns to the event?

A. Per NJ Statute 2C:39-6g "All weapons being transported... shall be carried unloaded and contained in a closed and fastened case, gunbox, securely tied package, or locked in a trunk of the vehicle in which they are being transported, and in the course of travel shall include only such deviations as are reasonably necessary under the circumstances.

Q. What does "No Questions Asked" mean?

A. It literally means that you will receive cash for up to three weapons without having to provide identification, explain from where any of the weapons came, why you have any of them, or whether or not any of the weapons are registered.

Residents with questions about the buyback effort can call the Attorney General’s Citizen Services unit at (609) 984-5828 or visit www.nj.gov/guns.

Proud to support Tom Malinowski for Congress

March 8, 2018

Every single day, whether I want to be or not, I am reminded how important it is that Democrats gain control of the House of Representatives in November and check Donald Trump. Fortunately, there is a terrific candidate in New Jersey's 7th Congressional District who can beat incumbent Leonard Lance. That candidate is Tom Malinowski.

I'm a lifelong New Jersey resident -- including ...
