Hehnly Student Council Holds Olympic-Themed Literacy Event

FKH Students Participating in Reading Literacy Event

CLARK, NJ - The Frank K. Hehnly Student Council held their biggest fundraiser of the year recently when they hosted a Reading Literacy Event.  All of the money raised goes toward funding a scholarship for an Arthur L. Johnson High School graduate. This year's event had an Olympics theme.

The Student Council Executive Board, Vincent Frasca, Mackenzie Thompson, Dante Sangiuliano and Alexa Tavares, introduced the afternoon by reading a short history of the Olympics and introducing the six different Olympic events to visit.  The afternoon culminated in torch-making and medal collecting activities by all participants.

Students paid $3.00 to attend the event organized by the Student Council.  In turn, attendees received popcorn and water, along with the crafts to make their Olympic torches. Olympic medallions were distributed after each of the 6 events.

Some third grade council members were responsible for helping prepare supplies, popcorn and torches, while the others distributed medals upon entering the Olympic rooms.  Fourth and fifth graders read to 100 visitors, while showing pictures and videos on the Smartboards.

Student Council Advisor Linda Hayes was pleased with the participation and the outcome.  “All of the members did an outstanding job.  This fundraiser made it possible for Hehnly School to provide larger scholarships to two of ALJ’s lucky recipients,” said Hayes.
