NEW BRUNSWICK , NJ - A Hillsborough High School English teacher has been suspended following his arrest for allegedly engaging in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old female student during a five-month period earlier this year, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey..

Kenneth Shindle, 27, of Plainsboro, has been charged with two second-degree counts of endangering the welfare of a child, one count of engaging in sexual conduct that would impair or debauch the morals of a child and one count of causing harm to a child making her an abused or neglected child, according to  Carey.

The student was not identified.

Shindle has been a teacher at the school for five years.

Carey provided the following account:

Plainsboro Poliice responded to a report of a dispute on the front lawn of Shindle’s residence between the suspect and the student last month. Shindle was arrested following an investigation of that incident, according to Carey.

The investigation revealed that the suspect and the student had been involved in a relationship between January and May.

Hillsborough High School students offer glowing reviews of Shindle as a teacher on the ratemyteacher.com website, including:

"BEST TEACHER AT HHS hands down!!! he is SOOOO understanding & caring, especially since he is in college himself, and he is the nicest person ever. The curriculum itself may be very tough for ppl in English 2 hrs, but he is AMAZING !!!

"He is one of the best Teachers in the English Department. His age makes him more appealing. He's passionate about the subject he teaches and speaks with clarity. Anyone who fails his class must not be trying because he is a really easy teacher. I have also never seen the man angry and he is very level headed. Respects his students and keeps class interesting."

"Mr. Shindle was absolutely amazing. He's sweet, super laid back and funny. His tests are okay, it really requires you to think. His grading is a little hard but he does his best to understand where you're coming from in your essays. He was an amazing teacher for English H II, but he said he might try a different class, like a philosophy course. If you have him, regardless the subject, you'll love him!"

"He is so sweet. He makes everyone feel great, he has improved my writing SO much and he has really helped me overall. I really like him, and I haven't met anyone who has thought poorly of him. He's an amazing person and teacher."

"Wow. No words really. He is one of the best teachers you could ask for. I always love writing and reading and even though he was not my English teacher he was my creative writing teacher. He was always there to help and made every student feel appreciated in every way. At the end of the course he gave out awards to every single student. I will never forget Mr.Shindle because he will forever be more of a friend then a teacher. If any of you are reading this...you want K.Shindle."

The case is being handled by Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office Detective Mark Morris and Plainsboro Detective Timothy McMahon.

Shindle is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday; he has been held in the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in North Brunswick since his arrest..

Anyone with information is asked to contact Morris at (732) 745-4194 or McMahon at (609) 799-2333.
