ELIZABETH, NJ – An ice skating facility with a concession stand and an artificial turf field with a running track are coming to Oak Ridge Park in Clark.  The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders adopted a resolution that provides $2.5 million dollars for the “Oak Ridge Property Project” at its June 9 meeting.

“This particular project is for the development and construction of a facility at Oak Ridge Park which will basically consist of an ice skating rink with two sheets of ice, locker room, a concession type area, along with outside of that facility a track with a turf field,” Union County attorney Robert Barry said. “I believe the turf field will be lined for both lacrosse and soccer.”

According to Freeholder Chairman Bruce Bergen, Union County College will contribute an additional $2 million to the project.

“We anticipate they will be in part using the new field for their teams,” Bergen said.

In 2014, the Oak Ridge Park site was considered for the college field after plans to build at the college’s Cranford location were scrapped in the face of strong community opposition.

Bergen said the project is in its early design stage and there are no cost or timeline projections available yet.
