CLARK, NJ –About 100 Arnold Palmer wannabees hit the links between the stacks at the Clark Public Library on Saturday.  The library was transformed into a 16-hole indoor miniature golf course, a fundraiser sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

“It was a really successful event,” FOL president and event organizer Karen DeMarco said.  “We had a great turn-out and everyone had a lot of fun.”

The holes were sponsored by area businesses and organizations.  Some were built by sponsors, others were built by Arthur L. Johnson High School students or Friends of the Library members.

Two holes were created as final class projects for an AP Physics grade at ALJ.  The team of Natalie Carnovale, Maryann Makosiej and Mike Sot built an elaborate “loop do loop” out of cardboard tubing affixed to a decorated base.

“It includes three physics principles,” Carnovale enthusiastically explained. “But we added the igloo, lighthouse and plane to make it fun for the kids. I’m really proud of it.”

Hart Tecson explained that height, momentum and kinetic energy were the principles behind his team’s elevated “Hole in One” hole.  His teammates were Eric Velazquez and Nicole Drapinski.

The kids who were playing through were less focused on the physics and more focused on reaching the holes.  Little ones as young as two and three played alongside older children, high-schoolers , parents and grandparents.

“This is something totally fun and different on a freezing cold day,” Shannon Della Fortuna said. “My kids didn’t even believe this was happening today. They love mini-golf.”

DeMarco extended her thanks to the many sponsors and hole designers who made the day possible.  They are:

  • American Legion Post 328
  • Boccella Tutoring
  • Dr. Bosonac
  • Daunno Realty
  • Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA
  • Garretson Financial
  • Girl Scout Troop 41407
