It's Boys & Girls Club Week!

UNION COUNTY, NJ - Boys & Girls Clubs of Union County has exciting events planned to celebrate National Boys & Girls Clubs Week, March 27-31, 2017.

We will join over 4,000 clubs across the United States and on U.S. military installations around the world to showcase our programs and invite members of the community to see first-hand the impact we have on youth in Union County. Each day during that week, guests can see what happens when you cross the blue doors and enter into a world of success. Join us in Union, Plainfield, Elizabeth, Roselle and Hillside throughout the week and see what happens behind the blue door!

“Each of our sites will be hosting different activities each day highlighting the “Open the Door” theme of Boys & Girls Club Week”, Russell Triolo, CEO, proudly stated. “We encourage the community to visit our sites during this week to witness our award-winning programming and see how our members “Open the Door to Success.”

Boys & Girls Club Week begins on Monday March 31st with the theme of Open the Door to Academic Success. Club members will participate in activities such as trivia games, spelling and geography bees. Tuesday we will Open the Door to Teens; where teens will have the opportunity to express themselves through an Open Mic Night/Cypher event and other activities. Teens will also ‘takeover’ school sites allowing teens to plan the day and direct the younger members.

Wednesday’s theme is Open the Door to Good Character and Citizenship. Members will help clean up club sites. Thursday is Open the Door to Healthy Lifestyles. Members will learn about healthy eating habits and how to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Our Plainfield Club is having Laugh Challenge; groups will compete to see which group can laugh the longest. To conclude the week, Friday is Open the Door – Take the Tour. Guests are invited to take a tour of our Clubs, meet the staff and members. Our Union Club will host its Annual Teens vs. Staff Basketball Game and our Elizabeth Club will host an Art Festival highlighting the art work of their teen members.

Teens participated in an art program in collaboration with Elaine's Art Club. This program is made possible, in part, by a HEART (History, Education, Arts Reaching Thousands) Grant from the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders. Boys & Girls week is such an exciting week for members all across the world. It teaches many valuable lessons and fosters many leadership opportunities. Boys & Girls Clubs of Union County offers youth programs in 5 communities during the school year in Union County: Plainfield, Elizabeth, Union, Hillside and Roselle. Teen leadership programs for ages 14-18 are available at our Union, Elizabeth, and Plainfield Clubs.

Members participate in character, leadership, career preparation and community service activities throughout the year. Aquatics is available at our Union Club. Boys & Girls Clubs of Union County Boys & Girls Clubs of Union County seek to inspire and enable young people, who need them most, to realize their full potential and have provided opportunity for youth since 1955. Clubs provide guidance-oriented character development programs on a daily basis for children 6-18 years old, conducted by a full-time professional staff.

Key Boys & Girls Club programs emphasize leadership development, education and career exploration, financial literacy, health and life skills, the arts, sports, fitness and recreation, and family outreach.
