Johnson Crusaders Boys Basketball Team Falls to Union Catholic for First Loss of Season

UNION, NJ - The Arthur L. Johnson Crusaders boys varsity basketball team lost its first game of the season to Union Catholic, 70-50,  Sunday afternoon at Kean University in the LeGrand Classic. The team's record now stands at 9-1.

The Vikings led the Crusaders, 15-14, following the first quarter and the teams kept it close as the second quarter progressed. The Crusaders trailed, 29-25, at halftime.

The Viking's slim margin gave way to a wide gap in the third quarter, with Union Catholic building a 49-35 lead heading into the final eight minutes.

Johnson junior George Visconti led all scorers in the game with 24 points, including four three-pointers. Junior Joe DiProfio added 11 points in the loss. Sophomore Brandon Hund put up eight points for the Crusaders.

For Union Catholic, senior Kyle Lofton led his team with 17 points, and senior Justin Pierce added 12 points in the victory for the Vikings.

The Johnson Crusaders (9-1) attempt a rebound from their first setback of the year with a 7:00 p.m. game Tuesday night when they host David Brearley HS (Kenilworth).

The Union Catholic Vikings (6-5) are back in action when they head home to take on Union HS Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m.
