Johnson Crusaders Varsity Lacrosse Storms Past Verona HS; Mike Bruno Records 7 Goals

CLARK, NJ -  Arthur L. Johnson High School junior Mike Bruno scored seven goals and dished out five assists as the Crusaders rolled right by the Verona High School Hillbillies in a Kimber Division matchup by a final score of 19-8 Thursday afternoon in Clark.

The Crusaders outscored the Hillbillies 5-1 after the first quarter and continued full control of the game with seven goals, as compared to Verona's four. Johnson held a 12-5 halftime lead and they never looked back as they captured their fourth straight win.

Johnson outscored Verona 5-1 in the third quarter and both teams added two goals each in the fourth quarter.

For Johnson, freshman Evan Parenti scored five goals and collected one assist, while sophomore Eric Bretz scored three goals and recorded eight assists to finish the game with 11 points. Sophomore Brandon Hund added two goals for the Crusaders to go along with two assists on the afternoon, collecting four points. Crusaders senior Nick Fischetti also added a goal in the win.

Sophomore goaltender Josh Hill made 12 saves on 20 shots in the win, while junior goaltender Dylan Bohm saved the only two shots on him.

For Verona, senior Jack Farrell scored three goals in the loss, while Matt DeDia added two.

The Johnson Crusaders (6-3) will take to the road Saturday against Hightstown HS Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m.

The Verona Hillbillies (3-4) will take on West Orange HS on the road Monday afternoon at 6:30 p.m.
