Johnson Crusaders Varsity Softball Overpowers Linden in Commanding Victory


CLARK, NJ – The Johnson Crusaders varsity softball team took the field Tuesday afternoon, looking to get back in the win column after their loss in the Union County Tournament Semifinals, and rebounded in a big way, coming away with the win Tuesday afternoon in Clark. The final score was 15-4.

Linden scored two runs in the top of the first inning, but the Crusaders would come right back with four runs to take the lead.

They would add six more runs in the bottom of the third inning, to extend their lead to 10-2.

At the plate, Johnson junior Gabby Zatko went 3-4 and recorded 3 RBIs, while sophomore Gianna Randazza connected for four hits. Senior Lauren Margel and freshmen Mackenzie Purcell each recorded two hits in the victory.

On the mound, she recorded five strikeouts and walked six batters. She also gave up three earned runs and four hits through five innings of work in the victory.

For Linden, Kathleen Walsh hit a home run and recorded a double in the loss, and drove in two runs.

The Johnson Crusaders (16-3) play their next game at Westfield High School Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. The Linden Tigers (6-12) play their next game on the road Friday afternoon at Kearny High School.
