Johnson Girls Varsity Basketball Lose to Rumson-Fair Haven HS in NJSIAA Central, Group 2 First Round

RUMSON, NJ -  The No. 15 seed Arthur L. Johnson High School Crusaders girls varsity basketball team lost to the No. 2 seeded Rumson-Fair Haven High School Bulldogs in the NJSIAA Central, Group 2 First Round by a final score of 81-47 Monday night in Rumson.

The loss closes the door on the season for the Crusaders.

The Bulldogs took immediate control of the game, opening it up in the first quarter to take a 24-10 lead. They would build a 37-18 lead at halftime and they never looked back.

In the third quarter, the Bulldogs outscored the Crusaders 28-13 and would pull away to secure the first-round playoff win.

For Rumson, senior Hannah Scanlan scored a game-high 29 points, while junior Tori Hyduke added 20 points for the Bulldogs.

For Johnson, junior Tina Palella led her team with 16 points in the loss, while senior Meaghan Gallagher added 13 points for the Crusaders.

The Johnson Crusaders finish their 2016-17 season with a 10-13 record. They clinched the Union County Conference Mountain Division on Saturday with a 54-42 win over Plainfield HS.

The Rumson-Fair Haven Bulldogs advance to the NJSIAA Central, Group 2 Quarterfinals. They will play No. 10 seeded Delran HS Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m.
