Johnson Varsity Baseball Outlasts Jonathan Dayton High School to Win Home Opener

CLARK, NJ – The Arthur L. Johnson Crusaders varsity baseball opened up their season with a slugfest against the Jonathan Dayton Bulldogs, and held on for the win Friday morning in Clark. The final score was 12-8.

Seniors Mitch Becker and Rob Prestineri, and sophomore Joe Turek all drove in three runs apiece for the Crusaders in the win.

On the mound, Johnson senior Anthony Furci picked up the win, pitching five innings and striking out seven batters. He allowed three earned runs and walked four batters.

The Johnson Crusaders (1-0) take it on the road Saturday morning, traveling to Linden High School for an 11:00 a.m. game time.

The Jonathan Dayton Bulldogs (0-1) have their home opener Saturday morning against Union Catholic High School at 11:00 a.m.

Cranford Man Dies after Wrong-Way Crash on Route 9

WOODBRIDGE, NJ – A Cranford man died after his car collided with another vehicle on Route 9 on Sunday.

Thomas McHugh, 88, was driving north in the southbound fast lane on Route 9, where he crashed head-on into another vehicle. On impact, one of the cars caught fire, according to Sgt. Jim Chessere of the Woodbridge Police Department.
