Johnson Varsity Softball Defeats Elizabeth, Remain Undefeated in 2015

ELIZABETH, NJ – The Johnson Crusaders varsity softball team remain undefeated, improving to 4-0 in the 2015 season after beating the Elizabeth Minutemen Friday afternoon in Elizabeth. The final score was 10-3.

The Crusaders scored four runs in the top of the second inning and kept control of the game throughout.

At the plate, Johnson sophomore Gianna Randazza went 3-4 with four RBIs, while junior Gabby Zatko went 1-3 with two RBIs.

Senior Lauren Beck went 2-5 and drove in two runs for the Crusaders. Sophomore Mia Lancellotti went 1-3 and drove in a run.

The Crusaders would add six more runs in the top of the fifth inning to put the game out of reach.

Johnson junior Stephanie Visconti pitched five innings, giving up one run on four hits and recorded six strikeouts and five walks.

At the plate, she went 1-2 with a double and an RBI.

For Elizabeth, Tatiana Mertyl went 1-4 with two RBIs, while Brielle Riotte went 3-4 with an RBI.

The Johnson Crusaders (4-0) play their next game at Union Catholic High School Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. The Elizabeth Minutemen (1-3) play Union City High School at home Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m.

Cranford Man Dies after Wrong-Way Crash on Route 9

WOODBRIDGE, NJ – A Cranford man died after his car collided with another vehicle on Route 9 on Sunday.
