Kings Food Markets (Kings) debuts its newly inspired store in Garwood, N.J., with a weekend-long summer tasting event for the community, beginning Friday, May 23.  Customers will have an opportunity to participate in exclusive tastings, nutritionist consultations, and chef demonstrations while experiencing the store’s new features, including an expanded gourmet candy section, Wi-Fi enabled indoor-café, expanded floral area, and new olive and mezze bars, where customers can bring their creativity to Kings’ prepared meals and try a variety of delicious dishes, such as marinated chickens, fresh pickles, falafels, coleslaw and hot peppers.

The event will also mark the 2014 launch of Kings’ exclusive 24 Hour Just Picked Promise – a commitment to make locally grown, farm-fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs available to shoppers within 24 hours of being picked. Kings’ Just Picked Promise gives shoppers the benefits of a local farm stand in the convenience of their neighborhood food markets.

The celebration begins Friday, May 23 at 11:00 a.m. with Kings’ signature pasta-ribbon cutting ceremony, including special remarks from Garwood Mayor Patricia Quattrocchi, Kings President & CEO Judy Spires, COO Rich Durante and Store Manager Brien Delp. During the event, Kings will make a monetary donation to the Westfield Food Pantry at Holy Trinity, an organization dedicated to assisting individuals within the Union County area by offering food supplies and other services.

Kings Experience Food presents, Chef Barry E. Sexton of the Opinionated Palate, will also be on-site preparing first of season asparagus, sautéed radish and cabbage and almond dishes, using Kings’ local, Just Picked Promise produce. In addition, shoppers will be able to enjoy samples from NJ-based favorites such as Cento’s fresh tomato sauce, Conte’s gluten-free pizza, and Kings’ fresh strawberries and pineapples dipped in its gourmet chocolates. Furthermore, the Sabra Hummus truck will be on-site offering a variety of gourmet hummus flavors which includes delicious toppings like roasted red peppers and garlic. Every day, however, customers can choose from the highest quality meats, freshest produce, “top of the catch” seafood, assortment of organic and gluten-free options and unique finds for which Kings Food Markets is known.

Finally, as part of the grand reopening activities, Kings will be giving culinary gifts to its first 200 shoppers, including fresh, local herbs and complimentary whisks, and customers will also have a chance to win a locally-inspired gift basket featuring products from popular local vendors and a $100 Kings gift card. Customers can also receive complimentary consultations from nutritionist Shari Bilt Boockvar, MS, RD from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 22 and Saturday, May 23.
