EDISON, NJ - On Saturday, Feb. 28, Carl H. Kumpf Middle School sent three teams to compete at the Odyssey of the Mind Liberty Regional Tournament. The event was held at J.P. Stevens High School and many teams competed from elementary, middle, and high school divisions.

Odyssey of the Mind is an international creative problem-solving competition. Teams of students are given long-term challenges and are tasked with creating solutions. The tasks range from building mechanical devices to reinterpreting literature.

Twenty-one students from Carl H. Kumpf, along with their club advisors, Ms. Hamilton and Ms. Faro, have been preparing since October for the regional competition. One team created a live silent movie, another team recreated the story of Pandora's Box, and the third team created a chain reaction (powered by rubber bands) to complete seven tasks.

Kumpf's Pandora's Box team placed third, and the Technical placed second in the region! Over 100 teams throughout northern New Jersey have spent time building and working together, but only six teams from each category will be moving on to the state competition in April.
