SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Shiloh Verrico, a 10-year-old up and coming actress Scotch Plains, is set to star as "Cassidy" in Netflix’s new original comedy series Country Comfort. The 10 episode first season is set to start streaming March 19.
Country Comfort follows a down-on-her-luck, aspiring country singer ‘Bailey’ (Katharine McPhee) who takes a job as a nanny for a rugged, widowed cowboy (Eddie Cibrian) and his musically-inclined children. Shiloh portrays Cassidy, the emotional center of the family, who is having an especially tough time coming to terms with the loss of her mother two years prior.
Ultimately, Cassidy and Bailey, the family's ninth nanny, bond over the fact that they are both suffering from losses. Bailey has lost her band and boyfriend, and the kids ultimately become her new band. The show is a family friendly series that can be described as “The Nanny” meets “The Sound of Music.”
"My agents and manager were able to get me an audition, and as soon as I read about the role of Cassidy, I knew I wanted to be the person to play her. I loved how complex she was, sometimes sassy, definitely funny, but also really wounded and emotionally deep," she said. "The writers Caryn Lucas, Peter Marc Jacobson, Julia Fowler and Ron Rappaport did such an incredible job of creating this amazing character. The cherry on top was getting to sing and play my guitar. All of my favorite things are in one character: humor, deep emotion and singing."
Shiloh began acting in the theater at the age of five and has since performed in a number of features and short films such as “Crown Vic.”
"When I was five years old I went with a friend to an audition. She had already been in the business for years and had an agent. Well, we ended up booking a national TV commercial together for Breyer's Ice Cream that ran for several years," said Shiloh.
"I had always loved singing in front of my family and friends, so it was natural for me to start taking singing lessons and guitar lessons. When I booked an independent feature film called 'Ghost in the Graveyard' it really taught me how incredibly hard actors work. It’s not all the glamor you see on TV," Shiloh said.
After gaining some experience, she was hooked and knew that she wanted to continue to pursue an acting career.
"I met some great actors on that project like Kelli Berglund, Jake Busey, Jason James Richter, and Royce Johnson who have been working for several years. I was able to really see what being an actor entailed and I loved it! I knew I wanted to do more," she said.
Over time, we found incredible people who have shaped and guided me on this journey, starting with my manager Jackie Reid and then my agents at CESD," she said.
Musically-included in real life, Shiloh has always found joy in singing wherever she goes, and she has fun playing her ukulele and guitar, which she was able to use on Country Comfort.
Currently, a student at Park Middle School, Shiloh has been challenged with the task of balancing an acting career while still pursuing her education.
"Dr. Dumaresq and my teachers, especially my home room teacher, Ms. Dreschel, were so supportive of the time I was away filming in California. I was put on home instruction, and the set teacher made sure I stayed on top of all my work and was in communication with my teachers at Park Middle the whole time," Shiloh said. "Without my teachers support and willingness to be flexible, I definitely wouldn’t have been able to keep up so well."
When she’s not singing or acting, Shiloh loves to play football and spend time with her rescue pups. A huge animal lover, she fosters dogs with her family for an organization called Traveling 4 Paws. They currently have a one-year-old dog that they are teaching how to live indoors in a home and to not be fearful of people. Shiloh's dream is to become financially successful enough that she can purchase a large piece of land to have a shelter/sanctuary for animals, including farm animals.
Circle Friday, March 19 on your calendars to watch Shiloh in the premier of Country Comfort on Netflix.
