Man Charged in Ronald McDonald Theft, Prosecutor Says

FLEMINGTON, NJ – A suspect has been arrested in connection with the theft of Ronald McDonald.

The life-size statue of Ronald McDonald sitting on a bench was discovered missing from the McDonald's restaurant on Center Street in Clinton Township last month. The restaurant was undergoing renovations at the time.

Ronald is made of fiberglass and weighs about 250 pounds. He was reunited with the Koury family, who own the restaurant and the Flemington McDonald’s, on May 5.

Crimestoppers of Hunterdon had offered a $500 reward for information about the theft. Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns, III previously said in a press release that the group played a “vital role ... in helping to locate the statue.”

In a press release this morning, Kearns announced that Thomas Roman, 56, of Point Pleasant, has been charged with third-degree receiving stolen property. He is scheduled for a pre-indictment conference on June 19.

The prosecutor didn’t release any other details about the theft.
