Mother Seton Regional High School Clark, New Jersey is pleased to announce a Gala Evening of Celebration and Recognition to honor alumnae and friends of the school. The evening will feature a cocktail hour with hors d’oeuvres, dinner including pasta and carving stations, and dessert. A silent auction and gift basket raffle will follow the festivities. Alumnae, family, and friends are invited to attend the gala. The festivities will be held on Friday evening, October 4, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. at The Westwood, 438 North Avenue, Garwood, NJ 07027. The Alumnae Award will be presented to two individuals this year: Mary Jo Spicer Bugel andDawn Moeller Reinhardt. Dr. Bugel is currently serving as the Assistant Dean of the Entry to Baccalaureate Nursing Practice Division of Rutgers University, Newark Campus. Her service to her patients, her students, and to the nursing profession is unparalleled. A veteran of the United States Air Force, Ms. Reinhardt has risen to administrative positions in the Neptune Township (NJ) School District. She and her husband, John, serve on several boards, chair many committees, and work on behalf of multiple nonprofit organizations in NJ.
The Faculty Award will be presented Katherine Price Blechar and posthumously to Rita Murphy Shugrue. Mrs. Blechar first practiced her beloved craft of education at Our Lady of Sorrows in South Orange, NJ and at St. Vincent Martyr School in Madison, NJ. After accepting a position at MSR in 1989, she proved herself to be an outstanding teacher of History and Sociology, becoming an integral part of a strong Social Studies Department at Mother Seton until her retirement in 2016. Mrs. Shugrue began her teaching career in 1940 at St. Patrick’s High School, then moved on to Battin High School and Blessed Sacrament School, all in Elizabeth, NJ. She joined the Mother Seton Faculty in 1967, where she was a much-loved English and Spanish teacher and a well-respected Vice-Principal until her retirement in 1977.
The Friend of Mother Seton High School award will be given to the Msgr. Timothy Shugrue. Msgr. Shugrue grew up in Elizabeth, NJ and graduated from Seton Hall University before his ordination to the priesthood in 1973. Since 2009, he has served at St. Michael Parish in Cranford where he was appointed pastor in 2011. He has always been a faithful supporter of Mother Seton Regional, feeling a special affinity to the school where his mother served so well.
Alexandra Clark will be the recipient of the Anne Larusso Cascone Award for Outstanding Dedication to MSRHS. Ms. Clark has remained a faithful supporter of Mother Seton Regional throughout the years since her graduation. Working first for the US Department of Health and Human Services, she later became a teacher of Consumer and Family Sciences, first at Mother Seton, and later at Colonia High School until her retirement in 2013. At all times and in all situations, she can be counted on to answer every call for help put out by MSR. She is a quiet pillar of strength for her Alma Mater.
