PLAINFIELD, NJ - A Plainfield resident has been arrested and charged for his alleged role in an altercation that resulted in the death of 34-year-old Oscar Isaac Ramos Lopez this week, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park announced Saturday.
Jamie Castillo Castro, 24, is charged with first-degree aggravated manslaughter in connection with the killing.
Plainfield Police Division patrol units responding to a report of a fight in the area of Park Ave. and West Second St. at approximately 11:15 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12, and found Lopez unconscious in the street. He was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead the next day.
Following an exchange of words on the street, Lopez and Castro engaged in a physical altercation that ended with Lopez being fatally injured, according to an investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office’s Homicide Task Force and High Tech Unit, Plainfield Police Division, Union County Sheriff’s Office’s Crime Scene Unit and the U.S. Marshals. Castro was arrested Saturday and he was lodged in Union County Jail, with bail to be determined.
