ELIZABETH, NJ – Police and emergency responders shut down train service at the main Elizabeth station due to a suspicious package found under the nearby bridge Sunday night.
According to the Breaking News Network (BNN), the device was reported as a possible pipe bomb but Elizabeth Police have not yet confirmed that information. The area has been evacuated.
Police are shutting down businesses on North Broad St. and Broad St.
The Union County Police bomb squad is operating a robot and hazmat crews are on the scene.
Elizabeth Police, NJ Transit Police, and Union County Police are investigating.
According to New Jersey Transit, train service on both the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coastline is suspended between Elizabeth and Newark Liberty International Airport. Rail tickets and passes are being cross-honored by PATH service and NJT and private carrier buses.
