TRENTON, NJ – The New Jersey State Police on Wednesday issued a composite sketch of the suspect wanted in a theft from O’Johnnie’s in Clark and subsequent car chase on April 12. The sketch, posted on the NJSP Facebook page, was compiled from multiple eyewitness accounts.
The suspect was driving a silver Ford Focus with New Jersey license plates Y64-GNE last Wednesday when Clark Police attempted to pull him over after a reported theft of cigarettes from the Westfield Avenue store, officials said. The suspect refused to stop and Clark officers followed him onto the Garden State Parkway, ultimately calling off the chase for safety reasons. Police at the time said unmarked units followed the car to Newark.
In an earlier incident, on April 7, state troopers attempted to stop the Ford Focus on Route 78 in Newark for a traffic violation, the Facebook post said. Troopers followed the suspect onto the New Jersey Turnpike and to exit 9 in New Brunswick before calling off the chase, they said.
It was later determined the license plates were stolen out of Perth Amboy, the post said. NJSP also posted a photo of the car and license plate.
According to the post, the suspect “may pose a continued risk to public safety.” Investigators are concerned the suspect may turn to more dangerous crimes.
