Open house for Union County youth services professionals scheduled for April 19 in Elizabeth

Community Access Unlimited is holding an all-day open house showcasing the agency’s programs serving at-risk youth Wednesday, April 19, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 80 West Grand Street in Elizabeth, NJ 07202.

Community Access Unlimited (CAU) is a statewide nonprofit providing support programs and services to adults with disabilities as well as youth served under the Department of Children and Families (DCF) to enable them to live independently in the community, providing supports in areas including housing, vocational skills and life-skills training, education, advocacy and recreation.

The event is open to professionals from the Division of Child Protection and Permanency and the Division of Children’s System of Care, case management organizations, representatives from agencies or community groups serving runaway/homeless youths and those from the community or religious-based organizations concerned for young people.

Visitors will learn about CAU’s youth services programs within its Transitional Opportunities Program (TOP), which comprises housing, vocational and life-skills training, education, recreation, counseling and advocacy, providing a continuum of care for at-risk youth.

The open house will include displays, an overview with questions and answers, lunch and tours of CAU residential complexes located in different areas. CAU staff and TOP youth will be available to answer questions.

Visitors may come at any time and stay as long as they like.

“This is an ideal opportunity for youth services professionals to learn more about our programs and why they might choose to refer their youth to us, or simply to learn how CAU and their organizations can better coordinate services for the best interests of young people,” said Latanya Palmer, director of clinical services  at CAU. “It also is a great chance for youth-oriented community and religious-based groups to discover a new resource and service partner within CAU.”

There is no charge for attending the open house. For more information contact Palmer at 908.354.3040, ext. 4394, or
