SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ - Despite a strong comeback attempt late in the sixth inning, the Scotch Plains-Fanwood varsity softball team fell to the visiting Arthur L. Johnson Crusaders, 6-4, Tuesday afternoon.
It was a slow starting game, with both sides scoreless through the first two innings of play. The Crusaders’ bats woke up in the third, bringing in five runs.
Shannon Brogan scored on a sacrifice fly in the fourth to give the Crusaders a solid 6-0 lead.
The shut-out was not to be, however, as the Raiders rallied in the bottom of the sixth, capitalizing on some misplayed balls and putting four runs on the board.
Junior Lauren Donah led the pitching for the Crusaders through the sixth, when Gianna Randazza came in for the close.
The Crusaders travel to Westfield on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. game.
Scotch Plains-Fanwood travels to Villa Walsh for a Saturday, 11 a.m. game.
