ROSELLE, NJ - The Roselle High School Rams football team defeated the Arthur L. Johnson High School Crusaders, 56-41, in a toughly fought home game on Saturday afternoon. Both teams came into the game undefeated, each with a 2-0 record.
The Crusaders held the lead in the first quarter, ending it at 13-7. The Rams picked up momentum in the second, finishing the half just one point behind the Crusaders, 21-20.
Both teams came back from half-time prepared to battle. The score was tied at 28 in the third quarter when Ram quarterback Gerald Hairston connected with Drew Stephens for a 49-yard touchdown pass. After a fumble, Roselle’s Duquan Ware ran 55 yards for a touchdown to increase the Rams lead to 50-28.
With a 30 yard touchdown pass by Vin Crisafi to Jon Duffy, Johnson tried to cut the the Rams lead, but Roselle came right back with an 85 yard throw by Hairston to Stephens to make the score 56-35.
In the end the Roselle Rams walked away with the victory.
The Crusaders play at home in Clark next week, Friday, Sept. 30 against Delaware Valley. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
