Metuchen, NJ - An old saying is that hard work pays off, but for several members of the GMC White Division champion Saint Joseph football team, this is an understatement. Five accomplished senior student athletes signed letters of intent to different colleges on Wednesday, February 1, to continue their academic success and play football for their future colleges.
“These young men are a great example of what it means to be student athletes,”Head Coach Casey Ransone said. “They are using athletics, which is just a small part of their lives, to help them get an education to be prepared for the rest of their lives.”
Alexander Aithal of Piscataway is headed to the University of Chicago, the third ranked academic institution in the country according to the US News and World Report, where he will be playing D3 football.
Steven Springer of Roselle Park signed his letter of intent to SUNY Maritime College and plans on pursuing a nautical career.
PJ Barr, a North Brunswick native, is the Falcons’ most recent Division I signee and will be attending Bucknell University in the fall.
Franklin Park’s Roderic Carson signed his letter of intent to attend Division II Gannon University in Pennsylvania.
Luke Yakely of Hillsborough will be headed to the US News and World Report’s tenth ranked college, Johns Hopkins University. “It was exciting to be signing with the same guys that you worked so hard with for four years” Yakely, the future Johns Hopkins running back, said. “I am proud of all of them and they are all going to great places.”
The signing took place just outside of the Vincent Maglio Gymnasium at Saint Joseph High School, with their friends, family, coaches, and Saint Joe’s brothers present to watch these talented young men sign their names to what should be very bright futures.
