WESTFIELD, NJ — A march in Westfield Saturday is one of six planned throughout the state in solidarity with the Women’s March on Washington, D.C. planned that day. According to organizers, the marches are “meant to send a bold message to our new government on their first day in office, and to the world, that women's rights are human rights.”

Organizers are planning a slow one-half mile walk from Lord & Taylor at 609 North Ave. through Downtown Westfield to Congressman Leonard Lance's office at 425 North Ave. East, beginning at 11 a.m. For details, click here.

More than 616 ‘sister marches’ planned to occur that day, according to the Women’s March, with at least one sister march planned in all 50 states, several U.S. territories and in 57 countries on six continents. Based on online RSVP estimates, it said, participation for the sister marches could surpass 1 million.

Westfield’s march is one of six planned in New Jersey. Others will take place in Asbury Park, Mount Laurel, Pompton Plains, Trenton and Wyckoff.
