First Congregational Church of Westfield, 125 Elmer Street in Westfield, will host its annual Souper Sunday forum on Sunday, Feb. 25, at 11:30 a.m. This year’s program will focus on issues surrounding immigration and DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals). The event, which includes a soup and salad luncheon, is free and open to the public.
Hosted by the church’s Board of Outreach Ministries, Souper Sunday is an annual “lunch and learn” opportunity focusing on current social issues. This year’s event will feature two speakers representing both the personal and professional sides of immigration. Attorney Sheila Moreira, Esq., will discuss common myths surrounding the immigration process and the difficulties in obtaining legal status. Ms. Maria Del Cid will speak about her experiences growing up as a so-called “Dreamer” and the scholarship fund she has created to help students like herself. A good-will offering will benefit the Del Cid Dreamers Scholarship administered by the Union County College Foundation.
