METUCHEN, NJ -- The Brothers of the Sacred Heart have appointed Justin Fleetwood of New Orleans as principal of Saint Joseph High School in Metuchen, NJ, effective August 1st. After nearly a decade as principal, John Anderson will continue to serve the school in another capacity.

“The Provincial Council is grateful to Justin for enthusiastically accepting our challenge to move to New Jersey to take on this important leadership role,” said Brother Mark Hilton, S.C., provincial of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart United States Province. “We are happy to have a person of Justin’s energy, ability and passion for our mission accept the call to lead St. Joe’s.”

Fleetwood most recently served as assistant principal for discipline and attendance at Brother Martin High School in New Orleans. He began his 22 years of service at the school as athletic trainer while still in college and joined the faculty immediately after graduation. He served in a variety of roles, including English teacher, student council moderator, and academic assistant principal. Fleetwood earned a bachelor’s degree in English Education from the University of New Orleans and a master’s degree in Private School Administration from the University of San Francisco.

“I am excited and humbled by the Council’s confidence in me to lead St. Joe’s in the Brothers’ tradition,” Fleetwood said. “I look forward to working with the outstanding faculty to serve the school community by cultivating faith, learning and values in our students.”

Fleetwood has completed the Coindre Leadership Program, a formation program for lay leaders in the province’s schools, designed to deepen understanding of the educational charism of the institute and to prepare them to mentor future leaders. He has participated in spirituality development with the Brothers, a mission experience in Africa, an extended pilgrimage to the birthplace of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart in Lyon, France, and a concluding synthesis experience at the general house of the Brothers in Rome.

Lawrence Walsh, President of St. Joe’s said, “We are eager to welcome Justin to Metuchen. His education, experience and commitment to the Brothers’ charism and mission make him a great choice to lead us into the future.”

“We thank John Anderson for his leadership at the school, and we look forward to his continued contributions to St. Joe’s,” Walsh added.
